Levon Zurabyan, a representative of the HAK (Armenian National Congress) was asked today by reporters what he thought about the ARF decision to quit the governing coalition and whether this meant that the HAK might cooperate with the ARF.
Mr. Zurabyan dryly responded, "One can proclaim to be part of the opposition but the right to become a true member of the opposition must be earned." He went on to state that the HAK still hasn't observed that the ARF has left the coalition but as soon as they do they will comment on the fact.
Mr. Zurabyan pooh-poohed the comments of some, in particular Deputy Armen Ashotyan of the ruling Republican Party, who have stated that the HAK will now lose it monopoly over the opposition camp.
The HAK spokesperson also didn't rule out the possibility of cooperation between HAK and the ARF if the latter "took the road to becoming a principled opposition force" and added that the real issue at hand is that of regime change.
