HAK Regards Human Rights Defender as "Ineffective"

According to HAK coordinator Levon Zurabyan the Office of the Human Rights Defender isn't working at top capacity. At a press conference held today,Mr. Zurabyan pointed to the HRD's 2008 report on the state of human rights in Armenia and its activities as reasons for making his claim. According to Mr. Zurabyan, "The HRD seems to be just involved in making formal complaints to the police and prosecutor's office regarding wide spread human rights violations resulting from political repression. As a result, nothing is done and the cases go unanswered. Thus, the HRD merely proves its ineffectiveness any incapability to do the job as set out in the constitution." "We see that the HRD himself isn't manifesting the required follow-up and vital principled approach to avert such violations and to bring those responsible before the law," noted the HAK coordinator.
