Heritage, Republican Party Members Condemn Recent Acts of Violence

At a press conference held today, Heritage Party parliamentary faction head Armen Martirosyan and Arman Sahakyan, a member of the coalition majority Republican Party of Armenia, responded to reporters' questions regarding the assaults on opposition supporters distributing flyers for tomorrow’s public rally and the beating of Argishti Kiviryan earlier this morning. Mr. Martirosyan noted that these incidents must be viewed from a political perspective. "When it happens once, it can be considered a random act. The second time might be an act of God. But when it happens more than three times it becomes a custom," stated Mr. Martirosyan, adding that if the proper authorities can't prevent such bad customs then he'd assess the matter negatively. Mr. Martirosyan believes that what's lacking is political responsibility. "Armenia is such a small country in size that any incident, especially such types, can be solved in a matter of minutes." Arman Sahakyan noted that his Republican Party has always condemned such acts, "especially if they are directed against members of the press".
