Food Safety Agency Seeks Gov't OK to Investigate Yerevan City Supermarkets
On the heels of a Hetq article regarding the sale of expired oatmeal at a Yerevan City supermarket store, (Expired Children's Oatmeal Sold at Yerevan City Supermarket: Director Pleads Ignorance) the government's Food Safety Agency has petitioned Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan to issue a directive allowing for inspections at the chain.
Hayk Minasyan, who works at the agency, told Hetq that the prime minister has 12 working days to order such a directive and that once issued staffers will conduct intensive on-site checks for expired food and other documentation.
He said that employees are already making spot checks to see if the expired oatmeal is still available on store shelves.
