President Sargsyan Meets with PACE "Refugee Affairs" Co-Rapporteur
Today, RoA President Serzh Sargsyan hosted John Greenway, the PACE Co-Rapporteur on Migration, Refugees and Population.
Mr. Greenway stated that he had come to Armenia to become familiar with issues surrounding the defense of migrants' rights since he is preparing to present a report to PACE regarding the defense of the rights of long-term migrants in Europe.
President Sargsyan told Mr. Greenway that Armenia has always taken a keen interest in the most vulnerable segments of society, migrants being one such sector, and that Armenia has always sought to collaborate with international organizations that specialize in such issues to resolve problems in this field.
President Sargsyan added that the Armenian government is doing all that it can to fully integrate migrants into the social life of Armenia and has never tried to politicize or take advantage of their problems.
The Armenian President also noted that Armenia's resources are limited when it comes to fully resolving the essential problems faced by refugees in Armenia and that he expected the assistance of international organizations
The two agreed that the primary problem facing migrants that needs to be resolved is adequate living quarters and that the allocation of housing certificates would be of great help to resolve the issue.
