American-Armenian Businessman Goes Missing in Yerevan

07_05-nazareth-berberianOn April 25, at 8 p.m., Nazareth Hagop Berberian, a U.S. citizen and business executive, left his home on Amiryan Street and hasn't been seen since. Yerevan police have informed Hetq there they have no leads regarding Mr. Berberian's mysterious disappearance. What they did note is that a criminal case has been initiated regarding the disappearance of Mr. Berberian, born in 1951. The investigation is being implemented based on Article 104, Part 1, of the RoA Criminal Code; murder.

The police usually define such cases as murder in the intial phase of the investigation and then alter the case description after other evidence to the contrary is obtained. The police never confirmed or denied the reports we received that Mr. Berberian's Toyota was later spotted near Zvartnots Airport. Mr. Berberian's wife and children reside in the U.S. Along with his wife, Mr. Berberian owns property at the Aboyan-Pushkin intersection in downtown Yerevan and are currently in the process of constructing a hotel on the site under the name of the "Linareh Company". They also own a carpet factory in the village of Dalar in Ararat Marz. Friends and family state that Mr. Berberian has no known enemies to speak of and that he has conducted business in Armenia without any problem.
