Sociologist Adibekyan: "If I had $20,000, I would have been named 'Best European'"

On May11, the "International European Movement" organization bestowed Gagik Tzarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, with the honorary title of "Best European of the Year". Days before, sociologist Aharon Adibekyan had publicly described Gagik Tzarukyan as a political leader with a "restaurant mentality". At a press conference held earlier today, one of the reporters asked Mr. Adibekyan if he would change his view of Mr. Tzarukyan given the award granted by the International European Movement. “This just goes to show that if I had $20,000 I could have bought the title myself. These awards are up for sale. There are loads of organizations out there like this one. You pay a nice fee and they make you a member. You become a member of the club. I have no need for such an award. If I felt the need, I would have paid the money and they would have named me the 'Best European of the Year'," stated the sociologist.
