Golden Apricot to Open With "Le Premier Cercle" Starring Jean Reno

This year's Golden Apricot Film Festival will open with Laurent Tuel's film "Le Premier Cercle", starring the famous French actor Jean Reno. Jean Reno plays Milo Malakian the ruthless godfather of an Armenian crime family in southern France. The 6th annual Golden Apricot festival will take place in Yerevan from July 12-19. 110 films from 40 countries were chosen out of 430 entries from 65 countries. Golden Apricot's Artistic Director Sousanna Harutyuyan stated at a press conference held earlier today that the Armenian version of the "Color of Pomegranates" would be shown at the festival to mark the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the film's director Sergei Paradjanov and to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film itself. She mentioned that participating in the event would be everyone involved in the making of "Color of Pomegranates". This year the festival will also on the works of well known Armenian filmmakers Bagrat Hovhannisyan and Arman Manaryan, on the occasion of the 80th jubilee. Three world known directors will also be travelling to Yerevan to take part in Golden Apricot - Polish director Jerzy Skolimovsky, Kohei Oguri from Japan and Rob Nilsson from the U.S.A. Festival Director Mikayel Stambultsyan that an informational program entitled Made in Armenia" will highlight films shot in Armenia in recent years by Armenia's National Film Center and by the documentary film studio "Hayk".
