NKR Experiences Drop in Unemployment

According to newly released figures by Gayaneh Ghoulyan, who heads the NKR Ministry of Social Insurance's Division of Labor and Employment, , as of June 1, 2009, 3,650 individuals have registered as looking for work. Of these, 3,457 were officially registered as unemployed, a decrease of 43 cases over June 1, 2008. 3,371 of those seeking work this year are women and 2,872 seeking gainful employment hail from the NKR capital, Stepanakert. Of those officially registered as unemployed, 73 individuals were able to find work. 515 of the unemployed receive unemployment benefits that average 6 months in duration, 12 months in exceptional cases. 51.1% of the unemployed are between the ages of 18-30, 39.6% between 30-50 and 8.8% over the age of fifty.
