PM Sargsyan - No Summer Vacation for Top Government Officials
In a sign of frustration over top government official taking long summer vacations at at time of financial crisis, RoA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan asserted today that such behavior was "unacceptable" and insisted that they take short ones, if at all.
PM Sargsyan made his remarks at a government session pointing out that such officials don't think twice about the ramifications of their actions. "They all submit one month vacation requests. As if this was normal procedure. As if we have overcome the economic and financial crisis and there is no serious work to be done. Such an approach is unacceptable," he declared.
PM Sargsyan urged officials not to apply for vacations and to tell their subordinates that they won't be taking time off this year.
"Our economic numbers this year aren't the best and 2009 will prove to be the hardest year in economic terms for the government. We must be prepared. Naturally, it is understandable that we face the issue of a technical recession. In other words, the large economic slide that we are witnessing today is conditioned on the high economic development figures obtained during the first six months of last year. Thus, the figures of today's economic slide appear to be pretty high," PM Sargsyan explained.
PM Sargsyan urged all government workers to regard the upcoming summer season as a time for intensive work.
"We do not have the right to think that the summer is a period when the government will take a vacation from its responsibilities. On the contrary, what we are facing is a workload that is the most difficult we have ever tackled. If we work successfully we will see positive results come the end of the year. For this reason, dear colleagues, inform your deputies and division heads about what we have discussed. Officials who are responsible for running the most important positions in our country have no right to leave Armenia this summer."
