Justice Minister Danielyan: Even Nikol Pashinyan is Eligible for Amnesty If He Turns Himself In

At a special session of the RoA National Assembly today, Justice Minister Gevorg Danielyan introduced the legal basis for the planned for general amnesty to the deputies in attendance. After the presentation, Deputy Viktor Dallakyan inquired whether the view of the president was n fact correct that the amnesty would cover 90% of those who participated in the fateful events of March 1 and 2, 2008. Justice Minister Danielyan responded, "Generally speaking, I believe that the amnesty should extend to all those involved in those events." Deputy Dallakyan then brought up the fact that during the amnesty discussions the president had noted that the amnesty would extend to Hakob Hakobyan, Myasnik Malkhasyan as well as Gagik Jahangiryan and Smbat Ayvazyan but that there were reservations as to Sasun Mikayelyan amd Khachatur Sukiasyan. Minister Danielyan said that there were no problems with the individuals mentioned except for Sasun Mikayelyan. "He is charged with Part 2 of Article 235 and according to Point 8 he would not be covered under the amnesty provisions. All the others will be covered but the amnesty level is dependent on the sentences they have received," Minister Danielyan said. He added that Gagik Jahangiryan and Smbat Ayvazyan would receive a full amnesty. Deputy Dallakyan then asked for some clarification regarding the cases of Khachatur Sukiasyan and Nikol Pashinyan."If they return within the alloted time and present themselves to law enforcement, in your estimation, would they be covered by the amnesty?" Minister Danielyan replied that the amnesty provisions would cover them if they turned themselves into the proper authorities by July 30.
