MP Sasun Mikayelyan Gets 8 Year Sentence

Jailed RoA National Assembly Deputy Sasun Mikayelyan was sentence by the Abovyan District Court to eight years imprisonment on charges of riot organization and illegal arms possession. Outside the courtroom, police had surrounded the building, not allowing Mr. Mikayelyan's relatives and supporters from entering. Also prohibited from entering were Parliament Deputies Hakob Hakobyan and Miasnik Malkhasyan as well as former Foreign Minister Aleksander Arzumanian who had travelled to Abovyan immediately after being freed today as part of a general amnesty approved by the Armenian legislature. Mr. Mikayelyan's supporters lay down on the road blocking the police car taking the deputy from the court. They chanted - Where are you taking our hero? Police moved in and finally cleared the road with great difficulty.
