Vahagn Chakhalyan Appeal Scheduled for July 22
July 22 has been selected as the date for the appeals hearing in the case of Vahagn Chakhalyan, head of the "United Javakhk Democratic Alliance".
On April 6, 2009, a Georgian lower court found Vahagn Chakhalyan guilty on all counts (illegal weapons possession, organizing public disturbances, resisting arrest) and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
On June 30 the final session in the appeal regarding the appointment of French attorney Patrick Arapian as Mr. Chakhalyan's defense lawyer is also scheduled. A decision in the appeal is also expected that day.
Nino Andriashvili, the Georgian attorney representing Mr. Arapian, is expected to speak to reporters after the decision is announced.
