Mother of Dead Soldier: “I went to the grave to make sure they didn’t snatch my son’s body”

09_07-mother-of-soldierThe exhumation of Tigran Ohanjanyan, a conscript who died while in military service, did not take place today. Tigran's mother, Gohar Sargsyan traveled to her son's grave to see that the body was not removed. The official military version states that Tigran died from electrocution on August 30, 2007. The family, however, believes that her son was murdered and have been struggling to expose the truth for the past two years. "They came in a convoy of eight cars - the judges and prosecutor with their assistants and experts. There were also a handful of military police and some skin-head types. I asked them why had they come since and weren't they aware that there was no examination scheduled for today," Mrs. Sargsyan told "Hetq", adding that, "They told me they had come to prepare a file since we hadn't been present at the examination." Tigran's father, Suren, was hospitalized the other day and the parents informed the prosecutor that they wouldn't be attending the exhumation. Mrs. Sargsyan, however, showed up at the gravesite early in the morning to make sure that they didn't remove her son's body in her absence. "I knew that there was no examination scheduled for today but went anyway to see that they didn't remove my boy's body. Anything is possible in this dictatorial country of ours. If I hadn't shown up they could have snatched the body and altered things in their favor," Mrs. Sargsyan said. After a lengthy court procedure, an exhumation of the dead soldier's body was recently sanctioned but the court has prohibited the family medical expert to be present at the examinatoin. "The health ministry has appointed dental, surgical and anatomical experts to stand in for our specialist but I won't allow them to examine my boy without him," said Mrs. Sargsyan
