Alain Terzian:

a-terzyan_14.07.09During a cocktail reception yesterday, reporters had a chance to meet with film directors and cinema people participating in the ongoing Golden Apricot Film Festival in Yerevan. Due to large numbers of reporters, participants preferred to give joint interviews to the press. Here's the interview given by noted French film producer and President of the French Producers' Association, Alain Terzian, to a group of reporters What do you think about the Golden Apricot Festival? It's a huge festival. And the festival's president is a great man who's doing important work. I hope that we'll hear more about the festival from year to year. I am very proud to be here at this festival. After yesterday’s showing of "Le Premier Cercle" there was a difference of opinion. Some said it tarnished the image of Armenians while others thought it was interesting. There are many stories in which Italians are portrayed as gangsters, real gangsters in the U.S. or Europe. But can you say that all of Italy is filled with gangsters. No, they are just stories, just pictures and so is this one about the Malakian family. They migrated to France and had a hard time surviving. Every person has a path to follow in order to get ahead. Everyone knows that Armenians are upright and sincere. What are your impressions of Armenia? It's a wonderful country. It's a dream, not a country. In my work I've travelled the world and it's the first time that I have seen such a good-natured, warm and diligent people. Grandma, look here, I'm on Armenian soil. I am proud to be here. Do you have any projects related to Armenia in the works? Not yet. All of this is still new to me. It takes me 3-4 years to come up with future cinema plans. But who knows what the future will bring. What do your children think about Armenia? Oh, they are quite proud. We had dinner with Edward Nalbandian. They were in high spirits. When we left, their friends phoned my sons Alexander and Anto. When are you leaving Armenia? Sadly, in two days. But I'll be back soon; in three days (he laughs). If sweeties like you are here, I'll be back in three days.
