On his birthday, June 30, President Serzh Sargsyan received about 5,000 letters from individuals in Armenia demanding that he halt mining operations in the Teghut forest. Copies of the protest letters were also sent to RoA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and National Assembly President Hovik Abrahamyan.
During a conversation with "Hetq", Hrayr Savzyan, a member of the Teghut defense group, said that none of the three leading officials in Armenia have responded to the issues raised in their letters.
"On the day the letters were handed over, it was recorded in the government and parliament that they had taken receipt of the documents. Only the presidential palace failed to acknowledge receipt but we know they got there," Mr Savzyan said.
