ARF Calls For the Resignation of RoA Foreign Minister Nalbandian

20_03-a_rustamyanToday, ARF Supreme Council representative Armen Roustamyan presented the statement that was supposed to have been handed over to the RoA Ministry of Foreign Affairs that calls for the resignation of Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian. Mr. Roustamyan stated that Armenia's foreign policy had veered off course and that the national security of the Armenian people was being undermined as a result. He noted that efforts leading to the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide were continually being hampered and that there wasn’t an appropriate struggle to countermand Turkish and Azerbaijani anti-Armenian measures. He concluded that the actions of the foreign ministry were woefully inadequate when faced with such challenges. The ARF official also noted that recent attempts by the Minsk Group Co-chairs to reach a speedy settlement of the Karabakh conflict threatened the national and state interests of Armenia. In lights of these facts, Mr. Roustamyan demanded that the leadership of Armenia and the NKR exhibit political will and farsightedness. On behalf of the ARF, Mr. Roustamian said that President Sargsyan should not sign off on any document that disregards the will of the people of Artsakh. Mr. Roustamyan said the ARF's demand for the resignation of Foreign Minister Nalbandian was based on the belief that such a step would lead to the removal of the negative factors that have arisen in Armenia's foreign policy and would place matters back on the correct national track. When asked by reporters why the ARF wasn't calling for the resignation of President Sargsyan and only that of the foreign minister, Mr. Roustamyan replied, "First, because we don't wish to upset matters in general. Our aim stems from the need to make drastic changes to the current state of affairs. By doing so, we wish to provide the president with the possibility to make changes. The president still has the chance to make the necessary changes and most importantly, not to sign the document that is presently being proposed."
