Tigran Karapetyan Also Calls for Resignation of RoA Foreign Minister

11_05-t_karapetyanArmenian People's Party President Tigran Karapetyan stated today that he supports the call for the resignation of Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian given the secrecy surrounding the Karabakh negotiations and the fact that FM Nalbandian refuses to answer reporters' questions. "Today, we have no idea what is taking place. We condemn that secretive stance surrounding the negotiations. The fact that the foreign minister avoids the press is also to be condekned. But this issue is of pan-Armenian significance and thus it is correct that certain political forces have demanded his resignation. We join with those demanding his resignation," Mr. Karapetyan said at a press conference held today. Even though, in essence, the foreign minister is an extension of the policies enacted by the government, Mr. Karapetyan believes that each force must be responsible for one’s own actions, regardless of who gave the orders. The minister is a member of the government and not just an employee in the presidential hierarchy. According to Mr. Karapetyan, he must answer for his actions by resigning. Armen Roustamyan, of the ARF, has said that if President Sargsyan signs a document today in Moscow that the ARF will call for his resignation as well. Mr. Karapetyan, however, said that he doesn't speak in terms of "ifs". Mr. Karapetyan said that any decision taken that opposes Armenian interests is unacceptable and that he would condemn it. When asked about the internal political scene and if any new developments could be expected during the long, sweltering summer, Mr. Karapetyan said noting new would happen and that the political field is going through a reorganization but that it's the same old faces. "The political field is going downhill. We should understand one thing. If we wish to see new forces come to the fore we must put an end to these despicable criminal elections that see unjust men seated in parliament. Do you expect these people to adopt decisions favorable to the Armenian people?" he said. According to Mr. Karapetyan, nothing can be ruled out in the political arena and that the struggle is going on. He pointed to the fact that Stepan Safaryan of the Heritage Party has started to attack Vardan Oskanian due to the fact that Raffi Hovhannisyan is preparing himself as a presidential candidate in the next round of elections and he views Oskanian as a threat in terms of the diasporan Armenian community. "He is using every conceivable pretext to strike out at Oskanian. Larisa Alaverdyan says that the HAK should join with us. Heritage doesn't wish to play second fiddle to anyone. They want to be on top. Everyone wants to be in first position, but in fact what we need is unity," Mr. Karapetyan concluded.
