Former FM Arzumanian – Edward Nalbandian is Just a “Cog” in the System

09_08-a_arzumanyanAt a press conference today, former RoA Foreign Minister Alexander Arzumanyan stated that recent developments surrounding Karabakh settlement talks were a cause for great concern and that the Armenian public is fully justified to express its suspicions regarding them. Commenting on calls for RoA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian to resign, Mr. Arzumanian said that the current minister is merely a "cog" in the system created by Serzh Sargsyan. "This is a totalitarian system in which decisions are made by one person and carried out by functionaries. Thus Nalbandian's resignation would have no impact on developments. This is perhaps the reason why the HAK has called for Serzh Sargsyan to resign as the only way out of this situation. His resignation is needed to make certain changes in the negotiations process. Thus, it behooves those calling for Nalbandian's resignation to scrutinize the matter more objectively and rather call for the resignation of the actual decision-maker," Mr. Arzumanian commented. When asked if he wasn't also a "cog" during his tenure as foreign minister, Mr. Arzumanian replied that he wasn't since back then there was a collective decision-making process and each member of the government had the right to freely express their opinions. The former FM also noted that the six Madrid Principles as published are unacceptable to Armenian and the NKR since they oppose the interests of the Armenian nation and thus any document based on them cannot be accepted to Armenia.
