PM Sargsyan Promises to Modernize Armenian Border Crossings
Recently, Hetq Chief Editor Edik Baghdasaryan wrote a piece expressing his frustration regarding the sorry state of affairs at the Armenian border checkpoint at Bagratashen.
Perhaps Armenian government officials had a chance to peruse the article and reflect on the situation leading to a statement made today by RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan promising that the border crossings at Bagratashen, Gogavan-Privolnoy and Bavra would be completely overhauled and modernized.
PM Sargsyan stated that a special committee would be set up to formulate a tender procedure and technical abstract so that construction of the new checkpoints could start as soon as possible.
He noted that the new crossings would incorporate all agencies under a "one window" service principle that would meet current international standards.
PM Sargsyan added that Meghri border crossing facility would be the next in line for such modernization.
