RoA Human Rights Defender Armen Harutyunyan has sent a official letter to Minister of Justice Gevorg Danielyan, requesting that he discipline staff of the Compulsory Enforcement Service of Judicial Decrees (CES) for violations they carried out against reporter Larisa Paremouzyan.
The incident in question took place in the town of Vanadzor on Auguust 27 when the reporter was called by local residents to cover the eviction of people from a district of huts by CES employees.
Ms. Paremouzyan, who reports for "Hetq" and the newspaper "Aravot" arrived on the scene to witness CES employees using physical force against resident Anahit Margaryan. The reporter intervened by demanding that the CES employees stop their mistreatment of the woman. She also began to shoot pictures of the incident.
A CES employee rushed over and grabbed the video camera out of the reporter’s hands and handed it over to a colleague with instructions to remove the film. Ms. Paremouzyan, announced herself as a reporter and that the CES had no right to treat her in such a manner. The reporter's arguments fell on deaf ears.
Mr. Harutyunyan, in his letter, cites Article 12 of the RoA Law Regarding the Human Rights Defender as the basis for his requesting a procedural investigation and disciplinary action by the Justice Minister.
