RoA Minister of Education and Science, Armen Ashotyan, today met with a group of young activists who last year had performed voluntary work at the Nubarashen #11 School for Special Needs and who had publicized a number of problems at the boarding school, including poor nutrition, ill treatment of pupils and sexual abuse by teachers. The activists had also reported that kids without special needs were also attending the school.
Minister Ashotyan agreed to cooperate with the young activists and to specifically form a monitoring group attached to the ministry that will include representatives of civil society at large. Thus, the activists will be afforded the opportunity to visit other such schools and to report directly back to the minister with their findings.
