Armavir Regional Governor Doesn't Have the Finances to Work the Land

a-xahramanyan_5.09.09Armavir Marz is famous not only for the number of generals it has produced. For many top officials the region affords the opportunity to obtain hundreds of acres of choice land for agricultural endeavours. In this context we asked Armavir Regional Administrator Ashot Ghahramanyan to disclose the extent of his personal holdings in the region. "If I had any holdings in the Marz, I am sure that you reporters would have disclosed the information long ago. I can tell you that before assuming this post I owned, and still own, a large tract of land next to my house in the village of Aygeshat. The house in which I presently live is my paternal home," Mr. Ghahramanyan said. We asked the Regional Governor if he wasn’t attracted to the possibility of owning huge tracts of land like other officials. "This issue must be approached in the following context. If one purchases land, it must then be cultivated, especially in the Ararat valley. It requires time, sweat and financial resources to work the land. I have neither the times nor the finances to do so," Mr. Ghahramanyan replied.
