The Heritage Party will today petition the RoA government to conduct a national referendum before any final signing of the Armenian-Turkish protocol document. Heritage Party MP Stepan Safaryan announced the intent of the party at a press conference held today. Heritage has also petitioned the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs to organize parliamentary hearings on the matter as well. The party has also urged the National Security Council to organize debate and discussions of matters of national import not only in the mass media but in government institutions. "The full spectrum of opinion of Armenian society must be heard on these issues via a referendum. This referendum must also be linked to a "vote of confidence" referendum regarding the president. The decision we accept must also reflect the concerns of the Armenian diaspora," stated Mr. Safaryan.
