Stepan Safaryan - Heritage Party Hasn't Been Split Asunder

29_04-s-safaryanStepan Safaryan, who heads the Heritage Party faction in the Armenian National Assembly, stated today that the party, recently racked by internal discord, remains in place and intends to continue operating."There are six dismissed party members but we have yet to receive resignation slips from anyone else, including Raffi Hovhannisyan," stated Mr. Safaryan at a press conference. "The Heritage Party still retains its authority. You in the press, with your articles, have shown that the party is a prime political player and not some second or third-rate organization." Mr. Safaryan went on to argue that because Heritage is an active political player with authority there have been attempts recently to discredit party leader Raffi Hovhannisyan. He added that Mr. Hovhannisyan resignation from his parliament seat was solely based on his personal stance regarding issues of national import. Commenting on Mr. Hovhannisyan’s silence to date on developments, MP Safaryan stated that the party leader had been away from Armenia at the time. "Mr. Hovhannisyan is now back in the country and I can say that he will decide when to make a statement to the public regarding his pulling out of parliament," Mr Safaryan noted. Zarouhie Postanjyan, another Heritage MP, commented that the problems facing the party could be overcome. The two added that party members had been dismissed according to the charter and that no irregularities had occurred.
