Representatives of the Armenian blogosphere gathered today in front of the Georgian Embassy in Yerevan and offered photos of notorious People's Commissar for the Internal Affairs of the USSR, Lavrenti Beria, who like Stalin, was also born in Georgia, and balloons with the inscription "Georgian Justice" as gifts.

The bloggers organized the public action to coincide with the court appeal of Javakhk activist Vahagn Chakhalyan that will take place tomorrow. "The balloons represent the sate of Georgian justice regarding the case of Vahagn Chakhalyan that will sooner or later blow up in their faces," stated blogger Robert Tatoyan.
Hayk Balanyan stated that the Beria photos symbolized Georgian justice and the Georgian state. "In our view, what is taking place in Georgia, especially regarding Vahagn Chakhalyan, is reminiscent of the 1937 purges in the Soviet Union. They are depriving him of the right to a defense, normal translations aren’t happening and the criminal case is an evident deception. To break the young man’s morale they have arrested his friends and family. What justice are we talking about? There is a hooligan attitude by the Georgian authorities aimed to spread fear and fright within the residents of Javakhk."

The bloggers believe that the real intention of the Georgians is to drive Armenians out of Javakhk.
Robert Tatoyan told Hetq that, "Neither the Georgian press nor the public is reacting to Vahagn’s plight. They are all fearful. When you ask them what has happened they feign ignorance. Today, we are telling the Georgians that all of us will be following his case."

Protest participant
Aleksandre Kananyan said, "Before Vahagn Chakhalyan’s arrest it would have been impossible for the Georgian authorities to conduct such widespread violence against the residents of Javakhk. He was the shining representative of the spontaneous national will that sprang up in Javakhk-Armenians."
