Diaspora - Armenia Relations and the Role of the Ministry of the Diaspora
Given that many of the responses left in the “Commentary Section” often have no relevance to the article in question, “Hetq” has decided to create a space where readers can discuss any number of current events and issues in the news. While we will essentially suggest the topics to be discussed, readers will also have the opportunity to propose topics as well. We simply request our readers to refrain from using personal vitriol, slander and foul language.
As the topic for this week’s discussion we propose to focus on the role of the newly formed Ministry of the Diaspora. For example:
What will be the functions of the new Ministry?
What should we understand when we speak of Diaspora-Armenia relations?
What can Armenia do for the Diaspora, in practical terms, which it hasn’t done already?
Conversely, how can the Diaspora contribute to the development of Armenia?
The Diaspora isn’t monolithic, each community having its unique set of conditions and circumstances. Must such relations differ from community to community?
How should we evaluate the notion of creating a common vernacular or the return to using classical orthography? Do language barriers between the two realities actually exist to the extent that they hinder cooperative projects and processes?
Can the misperceptions and stereotypes that exist on both sides be effectively minimized?
What steps can average citizens in both the Diaspora and Armenia take to create more effective lines of communication and mutual understanding, outside of officially sponsored institutions and initiatives?
Let us attempt to discuss these and related issues.
Again, our only request is that readers participate in a manner befitting the seriousness and complexity of the topics. Inappropriate language will be deleted without exception.
