Message of Life Ministry Takes Over Kanaker Church

According to a group calling itself, "We Demand the Resignation of the Catholicos", the Holy Virgin Mary Armenian Apostolic Church in the Kanaker district of Yerevan, has been literally taken over by the Message of Life religious ministry.

Local residents claim that members of the ministry congregate in the church's yard for prayer services in the morning and evening hours.

The church, one of the few in Yerevan that dates back to the middle ages, remains unused and locked up.

Residents also claim that the site has been used as a garbage dump where local youth go to settle scores by fighting.

Residents say that have gone to local authorities with their complaints without any result.

Just read some other stories and saw on FB that people are also concerned about Word of Life church. I died laughing because the Apostolic priest who makes some totally idiotic statements about the church -- the church apparently lets wealthy people and entertainers in, as well as distributes food to poor people and houses homeless people -- is standing in front of a Senator Casino sign. Doesn't he know that gambling is a sin -- well, at least in other Christian (non-Catholic) religions it is! And doesn't he read his Bible to know that even Jesus helped wealthy people come to the Lord, as well as entertainers, prostitutes, hungry, sick, homeless? No wonder rahageets has these feelings towards what a I presume is his/her motherland's Christian denomination. If the priests don't know and aren't educated about Christianity as well as Apostolic traditions, I do pity Armenians and the confusion as well as total inaccuracies coming out of their mouths, repeated from what their uninformed priests tell them -- while standing in front of casino signs! In addition, why is the Apostolic church so bent on trying to drive out the Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Word of Life, Message of Life and others? I may not like some of these denominations personally, but I will always defend their right to religious freedom as guaranteed under the RA Constitution. Who are we to say that I'm right and you're wrong, or conversely? If the priest doesn't like people praying in church, feeding the poor, housing the homeless, etc. etc. he should either 1) start doing it himself rather than worrying about someone else doing it; or 2) find a new job!

Institutionalized religion is one big business racket and it would appear that Etchmiadzin is loosing the PR war with the competition. Maybe the Church needs a new CEO?

The article states that the church is in disuse. I guess local residents aren't church goers and thus non-believers, at least when it comes to the Armenian Apostolic faith. So who is really to blame - the Message of Life ministry or Etchmiadzin.
