RoA Foreign Ministry Denies Statement Made by Davutoglu Re: Lachin Corridor
"There has been no such military expedition to Lachin to study possible future size of corridor"
"Hetq" sought a reaction from the RoA Foreign Ministry regarding the statement made by Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu yesterday to the Turkish parliament that a military expedition had gone to Lachin to reconnoitre the area and to gauge the future width of the corridor according to international norms. Mr. Davutoglu had appeared before the Turkish parliament to present the protocols for ratification.
RoA Foreign Affairs Press Secretary Tigran Balayan replied that, "We have already stated that no such group has ever travelled to Lachin for such exploratory purposes."
When we asked if FM Davutoglu’s statement was an outright lie, Mr. Balayan advised us to get in touch with the NKR authorities. "The Lachin corridor is under the jurisdiction of the NKR and you should contact the authorities there regarding this issue."
Turkish FM Davutolglu stated yesterday that, "This step, as noted by our Azerbaijani brothers, is very important and leads to a solution of the problem."
