Lawyer for Sukhudyan Claims Investigative Unit Tampered with Transcript
In a shocking claim made today, Nona Galstyan attorney for environmental activist Mariam Sukhudyan, charged with slander in a case involving allegations of sexual abuse of pupils at Nubarashen Boarding School 11, said that transcripts of a laser disc recording on the conversation between the prime witness and Arman Gharibyan, one of the volunteers working at the school, were tampered with.Attorney Galstyan stated that in the recording the witness, a certain "D.A.", confessed that he would be forces to lie during the pre-trial investigation. In the transcript, those words are missing. Furthermore, the investigator rejected the recording as material evidence. The pre-trial investigation of the case has just concluded and the defense has made several motions to the investigative body. The recording refers to a conversation between one of the girls, Diana Amirkhanyan, who alleged that her teacher had sexually abused her, and volunteer Arman Gharibyan. The girl told Gharibyan that a strange man had come to their house and had spoken with her mother and that she would have to lie to the investigative body since people had recognized her on TV and that had become the laughing stock of the town and a "shame amongst her relatives". Attorney Galstyan stated that the trial was mismanaged from the start and that the corroborative testimony of other volunteers alleging that sexual abuse had taken place at the school was never entered as evidence.
