Khoren Harutyunyan, a member of the Kapan Municipal Council and President of the "Azatamart Committee", is planning to stage a protest against the operation of uranium mines in Syunik Marz. The activist is calling on all local and national NGO’s to join in the protest action. "Right now, things are in the planning stage. A statement will soon be released and mailed to all interested parties. We are all obligated to think about the future welfare of our children," Mr. Harutyunyan said. He has said that plans are in the works to stage public debates and marches to bring this important health and environmental issue out into the open. "We must raise our voices and get our message across to the authorities in charge," Mr. Harutyunyan declared, adding that a press conference will be held in the coming days.
