Trial of Lawyers Facing “Disrespect” Charges Recessed Till After Constitutional Court Session

17-11_pastabannerThe trial of three attorneys, facing charges of "displaying disrespect to the court", was recessed till December 8. One of the three, Artur Grigoryan, had motioned the court for the recess in order to have time to bring another lawyer on board for the defense. Facing charges along with Mr. Grigoryan are Ara Zakaryan and Diana Grigoryan. On December 1, the RoA Constitutional Court is scheduled to examine Article 343 of the RoA Criminal Code, under which the three are being charged, as to its constitutionality. "Hetq" asked Mr. Artur Grigoryan whether he had motioned for the recess, giving the excuse of wanting to add a second defense lawyer to the team, in order to postpone the trial till after the Constitutional Court’s decision. "If that was the reason I had wanted to offer, my lawyer would have been ready to motion the court for a recess on that basis. I am a lawyer and all I can say is that two heads are better than one. A second defense lawyer is necessary," he answered.
