Judge Prohibits Videotaping of Pashinyan Residency Appeal

18_11-PashinyanJailed opposition activist Nikol Pashinyan has gone to the courts to overturn the decision of "OVIR" (the RoA Police Department’s Passport and Visa Division) not to grant him an affidavit attesting to the fact that he has resided in Armenia for the past five years. Mr. Pashinyan needs the document to be eligible to run in a parliamentary by-election.
At today’s court session, Mr. Pashinyan’s lawyer, Lusineh Sahakyan, motioned the court that reporters be able to attend subsequent sessions and videotape the proceedings. Judge Artzruni Mirzoyan denied the request even though none of the parties involved, including the police, offered any opposition.
