PM Sargsyan - Government Concerned About Rise in Drug Prices
Today, RoA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan paid a visit to the Pharmaceutical and Medical Technologies Testing Center where he was informed by staff regarding the activities of the organization. The Prime Minister later attended a closed door meeting with staff to discuss on-going issues present in the pharmaceuticals field.
During a press briefing after the meeting, PM Sargsyan placed great importance on the work carried out by the Center and stated that it carries out a unique function in the region. He was particularly pleased to note that the Center works in accordance with the highest of internationally accepted standards and that the specialists on staff are top-notch.
PM Sargsyan also broached the issue of recent price rises for various drugs and noted that the government’s Economic Competitive Committee has examined the issue and will soon present its findings to the government and public.
“We discussed this price issue at our meeting since it causes us great concern. The disparity between import and retail prices of various pharmaceuticals is sometimes as great as 200-300%. While the number of importers increases day by day, profit margins remain unduly high. Naturally, the government has much to do in this regard,” stated PM Sargsyan.
