Police Visit Mariam Sukhudyan's House; Claim Routine Hit & Run Follow-Up

m-sukhudyan_14.11.09Nelli Gurgenyan, the mother of young environmental activist Mariam Sukhudyan facing slander charges, told “Hetq” that two police officers recently visited their apartment, claiming that they were following up on an hit and run report dating back to the summer involving a Volkswagen on Agatangeghos Street. Mrs. Gurgenyan stated, “One of the officers was the local police chief and I didn’t recognize the other officer. They said that two people had been killed in the accident and that they were following up on the car in question. We have such a Volkswagen. They checked out the car and asked when it had been repaired. They checked to see if it had been damaged or not.” Mariam Sukhudyan’s mother said that their neighbours also have a similar car but that the officers didn’t inspect it. “I signed their inspection report and then the officers left,” she stated. The Police department’s Press Office told “Hetq” that the visit was a routine check that should not be of concern to city residents since this is what officers of the law are supposed to do. The officers did not ask any questions pertaining to Mariam Sukhudyan herself even though she has been questioned several times by the police regarding her public exposure of allegations that the staff of Nubarashen Special Needs School #11 had engaged in sexual abuse of adolescents in their charge.
