"Hetq" Receives Calls Claiming Trees Being Felled in Botanical Gardens

Today, some concerned Armenians telephoned the editorial offices of "Hetq" saying that they had witnessed illegally cut trees from the Yerevan Botanical Gardens being removed from one of the hidden entrances of the Yerevan Botanical Gardens. When "Hetq" got in touch with Jirayr Vardanyan, Director of the Botanical Institute, he said that such a thing was "impossible". "Maybe they cut a few branches. But it’s not possible for entire tress to be felled and just carted off," Mr. Vardanyan claimed. Institute Deputy Director Gagik Movsisyan scoffed at the alleged eye-witness accounts but promised to look into the matter and get back to us with his findings.
