Police Finally Act on Compliant Filed by MP Postanjyan

01_12-akcia Heritage Party MP Zaruhi Postanjyan recently sent several official complaints to the RoA Police Department, the General Prosecutor’s Office and the RoA Human Rights Ombudsman, regarding the excessive force used by police in their attempt, as MP Postanjyan stated "to illegally prevent citizens from the right to assemble and freely express themselves. She claims that police forcibly snatched the banners she and others tried to unfurl at a recent demonstration and proceeded to rip them up. (See accompanying photo) When asked if any of her letters to law enforcement and the judiciary had resulted in any legal proceedings, MP Postanjyan told "Hetq" that one had indeed resulted in a legal case that is now underway. She said that the one in question deals with the behaviour of the police during a demonstration protesting the Armenia-Turkey protocols that took place outside the RoA Government Building in Yerevan. Mrs. Postanjyan sent her complaint to the police on October 22. "The cops assaulted the demonstrators and used force to grab our placards and rip them up. This happened in the presence of reporters and many passersby," MP Postanjyan told "Hetq". Her other complaints have still not received any official response.
