Botanical Garden’s “Mystery Resident” Using Trees as Shelter & Firewood
A few days ago, “Hetq” received calls from local residents that tress were being felled and removed from the Yerevan Botanical Garden. Following up, we called Botanical Garden's Deputy Director Gagik Movsisyan and apprised him of the situation. His reply was that no felled trees had been discovered at the site in question. He even invited us to see for ourselves.
Yesterday, we took him up on his offer and visited the Botanical Gardens and found the remains of a bonfire in a far-off corner of the grounds. We also saw threes and branches that had been cut. It seems that someone had taken up residence in the Botanical Garden and was freely making use of the tress to erect some sort of shelter. We counted eight trees that had been chopped down in the vicinity of the fire, which also contained the remains of chicken or bird bones.
We reported our findings to the director of the park and soon after security personnel came and destroyed the makeshift shelter used by the “unknown” resident. He, or she, was nowhere to be found.
