On December 12, the Assembly of Armenians of Europe held in General Meeting in the German city of Cologne. A number of organizational issues were addressed and a new Supreme Council was elected under the presidency of Garo Hakobyan. The Assembly issued a statement voicing its extreme concern regarding the dangerous foreign policy line being followed by the Armenian government. The organization also declared that it would do all in its power to assist the people in Armenia struggling for democracy, freedom of the press and expression and basic human rights.
