Heritage Party Stages Protests in Talin, Aparan and Ashtarak
Heritage Party MP Zaruhi Postanjyan lead a group of the party’s young supporters and representatives of other NGO’s to the towns of Talin, Aparan and Ashtarak on December 26. There they carried out protest actions directed against the ruling authoritarian regime, the Armenia-Turkey Protocols and in the defense of human rights.
Organizers say that hundreds of local residents joined in the protest marches and added their voices demanding a just government and an end to the Protocols.
In Aparan, the local police wanted to put a halt to the protest action. Not being able to stop the march on legal grounds, the police made the absurd claim that the highway stretching through the town had “international significance” and that all demonstrations were banned on the roadway.
Organizers pointed out that no media outlets were on hand to cover the events, even though they had been notified in advance. They argued that this once again proves that the views of the vast majority of the media dovetails with the authorities when it comes to providing alternative news and opinion.
