Armenia-Turkey Protocols Burned in Effigy
Earlier this afternoon, demonstrators set fire to symbolic copies of the Armenian-Turkish Protocols outside the RoA Constitutional Court building while the constitutionality of the documents was allegedly being reviewed inside.
Members of the Heritage Party and the ARF, along with representatives of other NGO’s, had gathered outside with banners and placards to voice their opposition to the Protocols as presently drafted. They demanded that the court regard the Protocols as anti-constitutional and thus, illegible for ratification by the Armenian National Assembly.
A man dressed in civilian clothes approached Heritage Party MP Zarouhi Postanjyan and grabbed the poster she was holding that depicted those responsible for the document – President Sargsyan, the Chief Prosecutor, Prime Minister Sargsyan, the Chief of the National Security Services, the Chief of Police and the President of the Constitutional Court. Some fifty police officers closely monitored the demonstration.
