Saribek Sukiasyan Formally Indicted; Faces 3-5 Year Sentence
An official indictment was handed down today against Saribek Sukiasyan, Chairman of the Board of ArmEcomBank, charging him with "involvement in a group conspiracy to deprive the freedom of another for personal gain". If found guilty Mr. Sukiasyan faces a 3-5 year sentence.
Mr. Sukiasyan stated today that he has refused to sign or familiarize himself with any court papers since the "criminal charges are baseless". "The objective of this is to seize our new plant and smear our good name. The political motivations for this are known to all," he said.
Saribek Sukiasyan, the younger brother of pro-opposition businessman and former MP Khachatur Sukiasyan, was detained for 72 hours last Friday on suspicion of illegally possessing a gun and threatening to kill Audit Ltd. Director Gor Davtyan.
Mr. Sukiasyan said those who are conducting this "political witch hunt" will never succeed in seizing their property. "I hope it doesn’t reach the point when we are forced to disclose the names of all those in this group of bandits. We only follow a business perspective in all we do."
