Economics Minister Responds to Tsarukyan Critique
Minister Yeritsyan - "Tsarukyan should evaluate work of his party's ministers"
Responding to yesterday’s remarks by Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan criticizing Armenian Economics Minister Nerses Yeritsyan as someone "who understands neither the economy nor the financial crisis, Minister Yeritsyan today basically told Tsarukyan to mind his own business.
"I would advise Gagik Tsarukyan to evaluate the work of his party’s ministers. The Armenian president and prime minister will be the ones who grade my activities," stated Minister Yeritsyan.
Yesterday, reporters had questioned Tsarukyan after he made a lengthy address in parliament urging the government to lighten the tax load on Armenian citizens during the tough financial times. Minister Yeritsyan has recently made statements claiming that the crisis in Armenia was over. Evidently Mr. Tsarukyan, a wealthy Armenian businessman, has a different opinion on the matter.
"No one in the world today states that the crisis is over. Even those nations that witnessed a 4-6% do not dare say that the crisis has passed," Tsarukyan said to reporters yesterday.
When asked by a reporter if he thought President Sargsyan was aware of this, Mr. Tsarukyan replied that he was and that appropriate measures were underway. "You can’t throw all the blame on the president. The man has a staff of some two hundred officials and he can’t follow all developments. There must be adequate follow-up and a desire to serve the people," Tsarukyan said as he hurried out of the National Assembly.
