RoA Human Rights Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan has sent an official letter to Gagik Khachatryan, President of the State Revenue Committee, asking why technical equipment imported by the Gyumri-based GALA TV station has still not left customs. Ombudsman Harutyunyan notes that recent press reports have covered the story and that to date no sufficient explanation had been given for the delay. Many in the media and GALA management believe that the reasons are purely political since the TV station is considered to be an independent broadcaster that extensively covered the 2008 presidential elections and the campaign of opposition candidate Levon-Ter-Petrosyan.
