Armenia's Ruling Coalition Parties Call for Hiatus in Protocols Ratification Process
A joint statement has been released by the three parties in the present Armenian government ruling coalition calling for a temporary halt to the ratification process of the Armenian-Turkish Protocols in the RoA National Assembly.
The three parties, Armenian Republican Party, Prosperous Armenia Party and the Rule Party, state that, "The political majority in the RoA National Assembly considers unacceptable the recent statements of the Turkish side, particularly of Prime Minister Erdogan, that continue to place the ratification of the Protocols by the Turkish Parliament contingent on a settlement to the Nagorno Karabakh-Azerbaijan conflict."
The three parties argue that given Turkey’s refusal to meet its responsibilities towards the timely ratification without preconditions, "it is senseless to continue with the ratification process in the RoA National Assembly."
The joint statement concludes that the Armenian parliamentary majority states that the Protocols should be removed from the agenda of the National Assembly as a matter requiring urgent discussion until the time when Turkey, "is ready to continue the process without preconditions."
