Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management at Georgian Institute of Public Affairs

Two-year English-language master’s degree program in journalism and media management Twenty students, selected through competition in the Caucasus and Central Asia, will be trained to assume news and management positions at newspapers, news agencies, broadcast outlets and Web-based publications. Instruction will be provided by American, European and Caucasian journalists and scholars. The program runs two years, and will be offered in four semesters from October 2010 to May 2012. Tuition waivers and financial assistance available upon well substantiated request. The curriculum is based on a hands-on, experiential approach, using the latest techniques of fact-based, professional reporting and writing for both print and broadcast media. Students have access to a computer laboratory, the Internet, photo, audio and video broadcast equipment and a journalism library. The students will publish a student newspaper, Brosse Street Journal, and its web version, www.bsj.ge. Student will produce radio content for GIPA FM Radio. For international students, two semesters of the program will be held at their home countries. The core program, the defense of a thesis / final project and the graduation will be held in Georgia. The journalism faculty and curriculum for the school will be provided by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), with the cooperation from Louisiana State University. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and the Open Society Institute. Supplementary funding and in-kind assistance is available from the Embassies of France, Great Britain and Poland.
