“The Reestablishment of Armenian Statehood was of Critical Psychological Importance”

Andranik Nikoghosyan, President of the Panarmenian Youth International Center has issued a celebratory notice on the occasion of the day of the First Armenian Republic.  In particular, the message said the following. “Dear compatriots, I would like to congratulate you on behalf of the tens of thousands of members of the Panarmenian Youth International Center on the occasion of the day of the First Republic. The birth of the Republic of Armenia is the embodiment of centuries of our people’s struggle and one that we achieved at a very high price but also through our victory in May of 1918.  The reestablishment of Armenian statehood did not just have a big historical impact for our people, it was also of critical psychological importance. Freedom, a boost in national self-identification and the formation of state structures were the cornerstones which then came to set the stage for our country’s future.  May 28 is a celebration of rebirth and continuity for an Armenian nation that in 1918 stood so close to annihilation.”
