Anahit Mkrtchyan, mother of Arayik Avetisyan, a soldier who died in 2001 while serving in the RoA Army, told Hetq that she was not permitted an audience with the General Prosecutor regarding her son’s case. Mrs. Mkrtchyan sought to present evidence proving that her son was murdered by senior officers. "I saw the Deputy Military Prosecutor Zalinyan instead. He wasn’t familiar with my son’s case." The criminal case regarding the young soldier’s death has been dropped and Mrs. Mkrtchyan wanted to protest this development. "Zalinyan called in the prosecutor overseeing the case, Karen Harutyunyan. I presented my evidence and Zalinyan directed that the file be examined and discussed later on. I requested that I be allowed to sit in on the discussion and Zalinyan offered no objections. I also asked to be given a written statement regarding the review but Zalinyan told me this wouldn’t be possible," Mrs. Mkrtchyan. She says she is waiting to be called to the review but has the strong impression that the case prosecutor was told to "listen to her for a bit, pull the wool over her eyes and then send her on her way."
