During the recent trip of Georgian President Saakashvili to France, the Lyon-based organization "Yerkir-Yevropa" called on French President Sarkozy to raise the issue of the treatment of Armenians in Javakhk and the case of jailed activist Vahagn Cakhalyan with his Georgian counterpart. In its letter to President Sarkozy, "Yerkir-Yevropa" urged the French President to demand the immediate release of Chakhalyan who has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment by a Georgian court on charges of illegal arms possession and inciting public disorder.
