Armenia's Ombudsman Inducted Into Meditteranean Association
At the third meeting of the Association of Meditteranean Ombudsmen held in Madrid on June 14-16, Armen Harutyunya, Armenia’s Human Rights Ombudsman, was inducted as a full member.
During the conclave, the Ombudsman from Turkey suggested that the organization debate the Israeli blockade imposed upon Gaza and the recent assault by Israeli forces on the Gaza flotilla and issue a joint statement in condemnation. Mr. Harutyunyan said that domestic concerns are the main focus of ombudsman and if such inter-governmental issues are discussed than all outstanding issues, including the ongoing Turkish blockade of Armenia should be included as well. Meeting delegates decided against issuing such a statement.
